Maalaea Nearby Attractions
On secluded cul-de-sac between Maalaea Bay and Sugar Cane Fields–
The complex is conveniently located:
- You can walk 1/4 mile down sugarcane-lined Hauoli Street to the end of the road at Haycraft Park. There, you can start a walking or jogging journey at the quiet and undeveloped four-mile white sandy Maalaea Beach (Maui’s largest beach, sometimes called Sugar Beach due to the fine-grained sand), or
- You can walk just around the corner to the Maalaea Harbor and Village with its general store and restaurants (see below).
You can end the day with an evening sunset walk on Maalaea Beach and then dinner at one of the harbor area’s restaurants.

Watch Surfing in Maalaea
Maalaea Village is the site of “Freight Trains” (in season), a right-hander off the breakwall and over a shallow coral reef, and is one of the longest and fastest barreling waves in the world. Some say “Freight Trains” is considered to be one of the world’s fastest rideable waves.
Kealia National Wildlife Refuge
The refuge area provides 700 acres of natural wetland habitat, and Kealia Pond is nearly 200 acres when full. The refuge is home to endangered native water birds, and is a sanctuary for migratory ducks and shorebirds in the fall, winter and spring.
Haleakala, “House of the Sun”, is Maui’s dormant volcano and rises magnificently to over 10,000 feet above sea level. Haleakala provides spectacular a sunrise for those willing to rise early and travel to the summit.
Whether you choose to visit the Iao Valley, shrouded in mist, to see the site of ancient Hawaiian battles or drive the windy, enchanting ride through the colorful rainforests to Hana, you will be amazed by the beauty and serenity of Maui.
