South Maui Area (Kihei, Wailea, Makana)

The location of Maalaea206 in MaalaeaBay is central to all of the main activities and points of interest on Maui.  Only a 15-minute drive to Kihei and a 20 minute drive to Wailea.

  • In Kihei, a lively and sometimes crowded area with many condos, apartments resorts homes, stores, boutiques, shopping centers, restaurants and entertainment choices you will also find an number of beaches, including KamaoleBeach.  The area stretches from Maalaea on the north to La Perouse Bay on the southern tip.
  • Wailea and Makena are home to some of the finest resorts in the Hawaiian Islands.
  • Kealia National Wildlife Refuge.  The refuge area provides 700 acres of natural wetland habitat, and Kealia Pond is nearly 200 acres when full.  The refuge is home to endangered native water birds, and is a sanctuary for migratory ducks and shorebirds in the fall, winter and spring.

Water Sports– Good surfing/paddle boarding is in Kihei and south with its famous beaches.

  • Kamaole Beach Parks I, II and III at the south end of Kikehi have white sand calm waters, picnic areas and lifeguards.
  • Wailea Beach is excellent for swimming, snorkeling and bodysurfing.
  • Makana Beach is great for swimming and bodysurfing, where you will find Big Beach (100 feet wide and 3,000 feet long) and Little Beach (nude sunbathing is illegal but sometimes practiced here).
