As Advertised, Very Pleased, Will Return
Just returned to Washington from our two week stay in Maui. I’ll start by saying the pictures you see are real, and the first one Labeled “View from Lanai” is exactly what you see. I would guess it’s about 40 yards to the water. The owner is first class and very easy to communicate with.
Even though it was only late November, we did manage to see a few whales from the lanai and grounds. And the big surprise was the turtles! I’m told by the locals, this is a new feature. There were only one or two days when we did not see turtles right in front of the condo. At times we were watching up to eight at a time. And sometimes right up against the rock bulkhead feeding 15 feet away. I’m sure there’s no guarantee when they’ll be around, but this was pretty cool, and contributed significantly to my sunburn.
The grounds are well kept, as is the pool and two gas grills. All the residents seemed to respect the place. The stainless steel grills were clean and we picked up on the unwritten rule, wire brush the grill when you’re done so it’s clean for the next user. We bought some inch thick pork chops at Costco and they turned out to be about as tender as I’ve ever had. Low setting flipped three times, around 20 minutes total.
I’ll also throw in an unsolicited plug for Beach Bums, a restaurant about a 5 minute walk away at the harbor. We ate there a lot. Fish tacos, BBQ ribs, prime rib, all good.
The condo’s AC worked great. We didn’t use it much during the day, only a bit at night (used to 70 F at night). During the day, opening the doors, and the kitchen window really kept the place nice. Maalaea can be windy, and this is a good thing, as you don’t feel the humidity with the breeze flowing through the condo. That also kept us acclimated to the outside air temp as we spent a fair amount of time on the lanai and out sightseeing.
We walked down the road to the beach almost every day. I’d recommend wearing sandals or flip flops through the park as there are thorns from the local trees on the ground. Once on the beach no problem. My brother and I walked almost every day about 2 miles down this beach toward Sugar Beach. This put the finishing touches on my sunburn.
All in all, no complaints. We will stay here again, and I will recommend this to friends. This is a nice place, respect it.
